SUCCESS STORIES

Below are some of the happy families we were able to create though our rescue.

Juno & Avery

JUNO

WITH Avery & NICOLE

April 26, 2019, was the worst day of mine and my 9-year-old son's lives. My life long love and my son Avery's father, committed suicide. I thought we would never be able to get through this and Avery would never smile again. Avery was suffering from PTSD, anxiety, and grief.

Little did we know, around that same time, a husky named Juno, was going through his own grief. His family had chained him up for years outside in the heat. He was turned into Husky Haven with little hope of survival. He had 2 tumors on his nose and one on his mouth. The mass on his naval cavity was inoperable due to its location ad Juno's age. It was presumed to be cancer. He had a lump on his head that kept opening up. His fur was so matted, that they had to shave it see what other injuries Juno had. He was presumed a hospice case. Juno, however, was not ready to give up.

A few weeks after my husband's passing, we met Juno, who was being fostered by our neighbor.  Avery always wanted a dog, and I encouraged him to go help walk Juno and care for him. On the third month to the day of when his dad passed, Avery was having a really difficult day. Juno came over for a sleepover, and somehow that dog could sense Avery's pain. Curled up with Jon on the bed, the two of them could sense each other's pain, and lay together peacefully side by side. It was the first time in months that Avery had slept through the night without nightmares.

Their bond grew stronger each day. Avery began looking forward to seeing Juno and walking him and having him sleepover. Each time Juno went into Avery's room he would go right over to the pictures of Avery's dad and put his nose to them. It was as if he knew exactly the source of Avery's pain.

Juno's health improved dramatically and after two surgeries, numerous ultrasounds and x-rays, the doctors found no cancer! his new fur came in beautifully!! The two of them played together in the yard as if they had been together since birth. Juno was medically cleared and ready to be adopted. I knew that Juno belonged here with us. Juno officially became part of our family!

Juno is full of energy and loves to play outside with Avery. We walk together to school as a family and Juno loves to see the kids at school and be petted. His new fur makes him more handsome than ever! Juno loves to go to the park and watch Avery play baseball. He loves car rides and wants to be taken everywhere.

This miracle dog saved my son, I believe my son's love saved Juno.

Diana+3.jpg

Miss Diana

with ANGELA

Miss Diana joined our family the moment she stepped foot into our household. We agreed to foster Diana as a mangey puppy who was smelly and sore. As we watched her skin heal and her personality Blossom, it became very clear we were not going to be able to let this one go. Tears flowed every time I talked about potential adopters/applicants. Diana was already part of our family.

Diana is extremely silly and vocal! She is OBSESSED with food and absolutely loves her furry friends. She adores her fur brother and sister and even cuddles with her humans on occasion. She is one cool chick and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect match.

Adopting Diana made our home even more full of hair and dirt but more importantly love. Be ready for a wild adventure but one very well worth it.

Nova.jpg

Nova

with Ronnie, Heather, Dugan and nova

Nova was adopted 6/24/14 at age 6 or so -sarcoma of groin removed 7/20/14 - still has not recurred, thanks be to God
She has an opinion about EVERYTHING and has no problem sharing it with you and all who will listen. Of the 10 Sibes (9 were rescues), we've had over 40 years, she’s the most affectionate one of all.

-Helpful hints –

1. keep a question list and never be afraid to ask the rescue, the foster home, or other sibe owners what they do in any situation –

2. look into alternative medical options - there are many natural, non-toxic and often more effective ways of treating most canine issues than your conventional vet learns in vet school - a good vet will let you educate them.

3.jpg

Phantom

with Kimber

Phantom loves to smile, play and snuggle. He loves to bury his face into you and just plop over until he gets a good belly rub. He loves to walk for miles at a time and when its hot out, he loves his little pool!

Adopting has taught us how to give Phantom a second home even when he was timid and unsure of us in the beginning. Him and Kimber are now inseparable and they are bringing in their new friend Bear into the pack also! Our advice for future adopters is to be patient and don’t forget that while your new friend is getting to know you, you also have to get to know them.

ZEKE

WITH ANDREA

We welcomed Zeke to his forever home Oct. 2017.  He is the sweetest, most lovable, easy going and mischievous guy ever!!!

We like to call him Edward Scissorpaws, because he has the longest legs ever and always into something with his big ol paws.  He loves to dig holes and aggravate big sis Jade (that's what little brother do).  But they are inseparable and partners in crime.

Zeke has been the biggest blessing to our family and made himself right at home from day one.  His favorite spot to sleep is in bed right between us.  We make sure not to disturb him, for all he has been through he deserves the world and a big comfy bed!!!  We love him to pieces as well as our princess Jade.

Thank you Husky Haven of Florida for our bi-eyed beauty!!!

Ashton

with Brogan and Dave

Ashton became part of our family in June 2017, and we could not be happier! He loves to go on runs, hangout at local breweries with us, and make new friends who will give him a belly rub :).

This was our first experience adopting, and owning a husky. We are so grateful for how smoothly the process went. Husky Haven truly cares about placing their huskies with the right humans. It is easy to see this by how quickly Ashton has become the center of our world! We love him so much! It feels like he has always been part of our family.

We would 100% recommend this organization to anyone looking to give a furever home to an amazing dog. Thank you Francia and Husky Haven of Fl for giving us our loving, sweet, and a little zoomie at times HUSKY!!!

Tahoe

with Marissa

The day I met Tahoe I took him home and we’ve been sorta attached at the hip since. Tahoe lived in Florida with me for a couple of months then we made our journey to Montana, where we live now.  He loves the snow and will typically smoosh is whole face in it every chance he gets. Tahoe comes with me hiking, trailing running, watching soccer, backpacking, and cross country skiing, Sometimes dogs and their owners have special connections. He gets me and I get him. Tahoe is just a part of me.

Tahoe’s been with me through the best and the worst, always making things better. I tell him everyday, You just make life better. He’s easily changed my life, but my life had a Tahoe sized hole in it that I didn’t know about so it just made sense that he came along for me. But also he’s turned me on to rescuing... leading us to

Trust yourself to love a rescue and trust a rescue to love you in return. I promise it’s worth it.  Thank you for doing what you do. I wouldn’t have Tahoe without you so I’ll always be grateful to you.

Nashville.jpg

YUKON

WITH MICHAEL LAFRINERE

Yukon (was named Nashville) is a rescued dog. He is an Alaskan Malamute. Yukon is now almost 15 months old. He is still a little thin for his age, but his body has grown slightly long and tall for his age. I guess he's kind of like a tall, skinny teenager right now. He's already beginning to get much stronger and building muscle where he needs it. We switched to a half raw/half high-end kibble diet to get the nourishment he needs and to put on some needed weight.

He has now finished his 2 weeks of hard-core training with "Off Leash K9 Training" and did a great job, passing with full honors. Yukon is now completely off leash, all the time! He even managed to earn the coveted title of "Therapy Dog" during his training. With this certificate, he will be able to help other people such as children in hospitals, cancer patients, and elderly folks, etc. He has worked very hard to get to this point and is now ready to "pay it forward" by helping other people.

Yukon absolutely loves meeting new people and even gives hugs and kiss just about everyone. I am so proud to be his new dad and very happy that his "fur-ever home" is now with me.

Togo.jpg

TOGO

WITH PETE

This is Togo and he turns 1 on April 1st. I adopted Togo when he was 6 months. I couldn’t ask for a better companion.

Togo goes to doggy daycare twice a week where he plays with all his friends. He hangs out with his cousin Gizmo (Akita) and love to play together. We go to the dog park every weekend which he loves.

Togo loves people. He wants to say hi to everyone and he gets along with all dogs. He sleeps in his bed every night when I say “it’s bed time Togo” although he does sneak into my bed at times.

My whole family is absolutely in love with him. He has been great. He is awesome. I can’t say enough.

Dakota%2B1.jpg

MISS DAKOTA

WITH MORGAN

We adopted Miss Dakota Chaffin last April of 2017 from Husky Haven. She is the skinny brown dog in the photos. We had previously adopted Possum, the white dog, who is deaf and partially blind, from Francia. After 2 years we decided that he needed a sister!

We had visited a few different shelters and organizations and just couldn't seem to find the pup that we just "knew" would be the right fit. We saw a HHOFL post about a litter and we pointed to our future Dakota. When we knew it was a female, we had to meet her. As soon as we held her, we knew she was ours! She's sassy and sweet. She leaps in our arms as soon as either of us walk in to the house. She loves cuddles, running, trying to catch lizards or squirrels. I feel confident she learned all about giving kisses and cuddles from her older brother Possum, who that has always been his favorite activity. They love chasing each other and playing! They both follow us around the majority of time and are our shadows. We wouldn't have it any other way!

We love adopting, we are big believers, in "Adopt Don't Shop”. We encourage others to rescue. These dogs love us so much! We are SO blessed by their wagging tails and wet kisses.

Gala.jpg

Gala & rocket

WITH URSULA

We adopted Gala May 2019, then Rocket January 2020, he was a owner surrender. They both love cuddles, walks around the neighborhood, meeting new people and other dogs. One is laid back the other very energetic.

They both bring joy to our lives.

We are happy we gave them another chance at being loved and living a great life.

Harley.jpg

HARLEY

WITH VANESSA FREIST

This is Harley! We adopted her in July of 2016. Her dachshund sister, Roxie, is in the background.

This girl has been the absolute light of our lives. My husband and I could not imagine life without her now. She is about the funniest dog I have ever met. She loves attention, and loves to run and play with her doggie cousins! She is very high energy and despite being a generally very healthy girl, she has quite a discerning tummy which is typical for Huskies.

It is always important to deeply understand the responsibilities that come along with owning any dog. However, with love and attention, they will thrive!!

Thank you, Husky Haven of Florida, for bringing our beautiful Harley into our lives!!

image-asset.jpg

WEST

WITH ANDREW, KRISTEN & KONA

West is a happy 2-year-old pup who fits in perfectly with our family! He’s loving life with his new sister, Kona. They are both full of energy and always making us laugh. He is the perfect addition to our adventurous life and loves Jeep rides with the windows down and beach days jumping in the waves.

He is such a good boy but isn't afraid to back talk when he's feeling sassy. He will do anything for a treat and drools anytime he sees food. He buries his head in our couch cushions and pushes his butt as far up towards the sky as possible.

We didn't realize how much his adoption would benefit our lives but we’re so glad we chose him. He keeps our girl Kona so happy and seeing the two of them happy is everything we dreamed of.

If you're thinking of adopting a husky, it is important to understand that this breed isn't the easiest to handle but they sure are easy to love. Be prepared for a stubborn, silly, crazy, sweet pup to steal your heart.

Thanks for the opportunity to adopt our big boy.

Nanook.jpg

Nanook

WITH Kaela

The moment we saw Nanook posted on Husky Haven of Florida Facebook page we knew he was “the one”. Our family had recently lost our senior husky to bone cancer and we swore we’d never get another dog because the loss was too hard.

That all changed when we met Nanook.

He brings us so much joy and happiness every day. We really hit the jackpot when we adopted Nanook and we are so grateful to husky haven.

Gala.jpg

dakota & Chance

WITH Susan

Dakota saved Bugsy when our other dog died and then Chance saved Dakota when Bugsy died. We are forever grateful! We swear that Chance channels Bugsy.

They are sooo much alike except for the vocals!

bORDEAUX

WITH hOPE

The story of Beaux (Bordeaux )August 2019 we said goodbye to our beloved dog, Winston...a husky. Even though we had two other pups...a husky and pit mix. There was a hole in our hearts. About five months after his passing I see Beaux through Husky Haven of Fl and decided I was ready to foster.

Apparently, I was actually ready to adopt and did after just a couple of weeks. He wasn’t a perfect fit at first but we loved him and needed him....I think maybe he needed us a bit too.

He was underweight, fleas, kennel cough and the previous owner shaved him. He is now a healthy weight, long beautiful hair, healthy and above all...a perfect fit.

We love him so much. Thank you Husky Haven of Florida for helping us fill that void.

BOOMER & KEY

WITH John

Our story is about a twisted tale. After one of our dogs was put down we contacted HHOF to adopt. Our first match out of Goergia passed away suddenly before he got to Florida. Our second match turned out to be too much with our handicapped 17yo girl at home. Our daughter passed away and we gave up for awhile.

Francia contacted us about fostering Boomer, we were foster failures almost instantly. Boomer brought us and our other fur baby Carole a lot of fun and love and we decided to try another. We met and bonded with Key as soon as we met him.

We are now a happy, loving, and never boring household with three wonderful furbabies thanks to HHOF.

Bleu

WITH cathy

This is Bleu Part Two

We had been following your rescue for quite some time but honestly had no intention of adding another pup to our pack. One day, Bleu popped up in our feed. He was so sweet looking and had the same name as our dear Bleu that we had rescued some years earlier.

We lost Bleu Sr in October the year before and decided what better way to honor his memory than to adopt another husky of the same name. Bleu apart Two fits in so well with our family and plays all day with his fur siblings, Ahi and Stella.

Chance & coda

WITH andrew

This is Bleu Part Two

Bethany adopted Chance and he saved her life.

Eventually we added Coda to the family and they are my favorites!

lYrA

WITH KIRSTIN & brandon

Lyra was adopted in January of 2020. We adopted her sister from Ewenity Farm Herding Dog Haven a year prior and knew she needed a puppy pal. The girls are best buds, cuddle bugs, and Lyra brings courage out of our little nervous girl. In their downtime, they enjoy sunbathing, zoomies, new stuffed toys, dental sticks, fresh strawberries, and destroying the blankets on the bed. Lyra is always available for belly rubs and head scratchies. She said her favorite thing about her home is receiving all the belly rubs and love from mom and dad and anyone that comes to the door. She even gifts all her new friends with some floof to take home with them.

Before adopting Lyra, we knew it was the best thing for our first pup. However, we had some concerns about how much love we had to spare for a second fur baby. We were concerned about time, energy, resources, hands available to pet and walk, the amount of love left to give, etc. However, it has truly been the best decision we have made since adopting our first sweet girl. If you can provide financially for two pups, the rest just happens. In many ways, life has been easier with two fur babies. We cannot imagine life with one again. Lyra came into our lives and immediately made herself at home. It has been a joy to see her personality evolve. Our girls are truly two siblings (and our fur babies) and seeing them play and love each other brings so much joy into our lives. Although Lyra was not the initial floof that brought our attention to Husky Haven, we are forever grateful of their intentionality while pairing us with her.

malaki

WITH kelly

This is Malaki, we adopted him at the end of June 2020. Husky Haven of Florida was nice enough to pull him from a shelter even though he's not a husky (he's a malamute) and get him into foster.

Malaki is 9 years old, heartworm positive and has other health issues. He may not represent the breed as he has cauliflower ears, short legs, and long, but he acts like a malamute.

He's the most beautiful and best dog in the world to us!

Thank you again for rescuing him.

kony

WITH steve

My life with Kony (Black /white husky) began Memorial Day Weekend 2013 when one picture of a forlorn, tired soul told me there was room in our hearts and home for our pack to grow.

Kony was rescued from Miami-Dade where abandoned 8 y/o dogs don’t face ANY future. HHOFL volunteers saved a skinny, neglected guy with a funny name, crusty ears, runny eyes and a scaly, mottled coat. Thanks to a loving foster family, quality medical care and proper nutrition Kony was ready to come to his furever home.

I have never in my life met a kinder, more gentle soul than his. He taught me the importance of living in the moment as well as how many blessings we all truly enjoy at God’s grace.

I miss my friend every single day but his spirit lives on in his fur sib Ari, another senior rescue, and his legacy is as eternal as the stars that shine like his beautiful blue eyes.

WITH melanie

I work at the hospital that takes care of all the Husky Haven of Florida rescues and I love each of them that come in.

One day,  I came into work one afternoon and saw this tiny little husky mix girl napping so sweet, I went to her cage to give her some love and right away she gave me paw. My heart melted. At that moment, something clicked, I knew I needed her and I was going to do everything to have her.

It was definitely not the correct time to take in a puppy but she was perfect, I was not going to give up on her. Ever since, she’s been my travel buddy, my lazy cuddle bear and my shoulder to cry on. She was the missing piece to my heart.

Thank you Husky Haven of Florida for giving me my best friend.

KYA

WITH ALEX

2 years ago we got a 9 month old husky named Dottie and she was perfect but she always wanted another friend to play with. So a few months ago we decided it was time to get her a playmate!

We signed up through your organization and Naomi helped us find the perfect playmate for our Dottie! This dog just happened to be Kya! Kya was bought from a shady breeder and when her parents got divorced she stayed with her mom who moved to Florida to live with her sister. Kya’s moms sister didn’t like dogs so unfortunately Kya had to stay in a crate all day. Kya’s mom decided it would be best for husky haven to take Kya and give her a better home.

After a few months of searching Naomi found us Kya! She is such a good dog and her foster parents did an AWESOME job taking care of her! And we love Kya and Dottie, they play all day and love each other to death!

❤️ thank you husky haven for giving us the opportunity to give Kya a forever home!
