HUSKY HAVEN OF FLORIDA

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Husky Haven of Florida!  We are excited that you want to add one of our beloved dogs into your family, and we are equally as excited to place one of our dogs in your loving household.  Please understand we are 100% volunteer based.

Our volunteers do this as their passion for the breed, but all of us have full time jobs and families too!  We do our very best to provide the best service possible, so please be patient with us as we diligently work to find your new best friend.

To ensure a match made in heaven, there are a few steps that must be done and requirements to be met. Please read ALL of the following information below:

ADOPTION FEEs

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heart-worm tested and fecal tested. A lot of our huskies don't come to us in great shape, and therefore require several vet appointments to get them healthy and adoptable. We hope this helps you understand why we request this fee, and why we are always asking for donations! All dogs come with a martingale collar with a Husky Haven of Florida tag.

$500 – Purebred or artic mixed breed puppies up to 6 months plus $25 application fee ONLY for puppies.

$400 – Purebred puppies 6 months to 1 year
$375 – Mixed breed puppies 6 months to 1 year

$325 – All dogs 1 to 8 years

$275 – All dogs 8 to 10 years
$200 – All dogs over 11 years

Step #1: Research the Breed, and Our Available Dogs

Huskies have notoriously interesting personalities and are not a breed of dog to be taken in unprepared. Please do ample research and consider fostering before diving in to the magical world of huskies! Find some information here:

Our available Huskies are listed on our website. You may also find our adoptable dogs on PetFinder, Adopt a Pet, and RescueMe. We update our listings as soon as possible to keep the most current availability listed. However, due to timing and volunteer availability, updates may not happen immediately, so please allow at least 24 hours for the update to reflect on our website.

We do our best to provide honest and detailed information about our dogs in their bios on this page.  We try to be as thorough as possible based on what we know.

  • The pictures you see are the only pictures we have, so please do not ask for other pictures!

  • Please read each bio carefully.  If it's not listed in their bio, then unfortunately we do not know.

  • Many times, you may apply for one dog, but after our review, we determine that dog may not be a good fit for your family and lifestyle.  We’ll do our best to match you with a dog that we think would be better suited.

  • We receive multiple applications for the same dog and our first priority is placing the dog into the home that is best suited to his/her needs.

  • Please note that we DO NOT HOLD DOGS. Also, we could have another applicant interested in the same dog you apply for. We do our best to find the best match for our dogs, and if the one you apply for is no longer available once you’re approved, then we will match you with one that we think would fit your family and lifestyle.

Step #2: Complete an Adoption Application

The application is the best way to explain yourself and why you think a husky would be a good fit for you. We ask that you fill out our adoption application in its entirety. This will give us an opportunity to learn more about you and determine which husky might be a good fit if any. If the requested husky is pending, or we feel is not the best match, this allows us an opportunity to suggest another one for you.

*Please allow 2-3 weeks to process your application. All adoption applications are either approved or denied based on a review process that includes a vet check, employment check, and a mandatory home visit (all family members must be present). Any missing information will delay the process and could potentially result in a denial.

Requirements for adoption:

  • Current dog(s) must be spayed or neutered. All animals in the home must be up to date on necessary vaccines (Rabies, DH2PP, and Bordatella).

  • Current dog(s) must be current on flea, tick, and heartworm preventative.

  • If you rent, please verify with your landlord a Husky and/or Malamute is allowed. We WILL verify.

  • We do not require a fenced-in yard, but it’s always a plus.

  • You must be 21, or older, to apply.

  • We do not adopt to students as they tend to have busy schedules, which results in not enough time for a husky.

  • Huskies have a high prey drive. We always consider this when placing a husky in its new home.

  • Adoption of a puppy (under one year)

    • Any dogs under 1 year of age must go to a home with another dog that matches the energy of a husky.

    • We do not adopt purebred huskies under 1 year of age to anyone without proven husky experience. We also don’t adopt huskies to anyone without any dog experience.

    • You must own your home

    • A fenced back yard is required

    • Must adhere to our puppy schedule for boosters/vaccines, as well as spay and neuter when time is right (if puppy is not already spayed or neutered when adopted.

Step #3: Home Check

Applications that are qualified to be a good fit for a particular husky are subject to a home check by a volunteer of Husky Haven. Adopting a new husky into your home is a serious commitment and we want to ensure the dog you adopt will be a good fit within your home environment. How might they interact with the family members and/or other pets? Where will they stay when you're not home? Is your home and yard free of any possible dangers? How will they get exercise and how often?

Step 4: Meet and Greet / Adoption

*We DO NOT have a physical shelter or location for our dogs. Our rescue covers the entire state of Florida.  Our dogs are located in private foster homes throughout the state.  Each foster home has their own family, jobs, etc.  That said, you must have an approved application prior to setting up a meet and greet with any of our dogs.

Once you have completed the home check, and have been approved to adopt, we will schedule a meet and greet with the foster of the husky you wish to adopt. In order to ensure that the best compatible husky is chosen, it is important that all household/family members, including other dogs, interact with the potential new member of your family before the adoption is finalized. That said, the adopter, their family members, and other dog(s) will drive to the foster home to meet the dog. If all goes well, you will be adopting your new husky right then and there, so please bring your own leash to the meet and greet!

-FYI-

Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be approved for the dog you apply for.

We reserve the right to refuse an applicant if, in our opinion, the home situation is not compatible with the needs of a husky.

We are a 100% volunteer based organization, we work hard to process as fast as we can, but it may take up to 7 to 10 days to receive an initial response from us regarding your application. We appreciate your understanding and patience. The average time it takes to process an application from beginning to end is 2 to 3 weeks. Please fill out the application COMPLETELY. An incomplete application may cause delays in processing or may not be reviewed at all.

Do we adopt outside of the state of Florida? We usually do not as the logistics can be too complicated. However, if the application is perfect for the dog, and we mean perfect, then it might be considered. We encourage you to connect with local shelters and rescues to save a life in your state.
